split screen sadness

Here's what I've learned about dogs: They're a lot like pretty girls. Having one or two around makes everything more fun, but when you get a whole bunch together, it turns into one big power struggle. --Scott Westerfield--

Canvassing my past and present friend history, I notice I have had many girl acquaintances, but few girl friends. Girls tend to always be judging and we exhaust ourselves trying to be the cutest or best.

It's true I would rather work alone than in a group, but this does not always ring true in relationships. There is only so much you can clean or organize before you start to wish you had a gaggle of girls to share funny times with.

I always seemed to find myself in a horde of girls...whether it be on a softball team, on friday nights in high school, or in my sorority in college. However, I often caught myself with low self-esteem and feeling as if I was a lone reed. I am quite shy when it comes to new people and am not very good at breaking the ice. This probably makes me appear hoity at times, but I assure you, the opposite is true.

Even in 2008, I often find myself feeling this way. Even with the world at my feet...wonderful fiance, job that I love, etc...I feel a lack of true connection. I get so pissed at myself for pushing people away, only to feel lonely. Oh, self. You stink sometimes!

Does anyone else ever feel this way or sabotage themselves?

all apologies

i realize i have been missing from my blog for quite some time now. it's hard to describe how busy things have been lately, but i will attempt to do so now.

*NY trip: i traveled to west point two weekends ago for the 500th night banquet. i was greeted by chris at LGA. it was the first time i had seen him after his eye surgery and he sure was a sight for (and with) sore eyes. we had a MARVELOUS time just being together. i finally got to meet the anderson's and a grand time was had by all. and yes, i had yuengling while i was there. DEE-VINE.

*school: my fabulous teaching assistant got the flu this week, so that meant i was pretty much alone w/ 23 five year olds all week. not to mention that several of my students were sick, but their parents refused to come get them. apart from that, i am loving my job more every day. i absolutely love where i am, who i'm with, and anticipate what each day will bring.

*KTIP: not so bad...just annoying.
*yoga: i have been going to yoga once a week and THIS week...i halfway accomplished one of the goals i set for myself. i did a headstand!! it was so freaking exhilarating! if anyone ever wants to join me, it's only $2. thursdays from 6-715ish.
*columbus trip: this afternoon, i am leaving for columbus until tuesday. another teacher and i are going to a reading conference (all paid) and it should be a rocking time. i'll have my phone, but no internet access.

*philly trip: chris and i decided to take a random trip to a random city over prez wknd. i will be leaving lex around 5 next friday afternoon and won't be back until monday afternoon. who knows what we'll be getting into, but chris will be SURE to have his camera this time around.

*ft wayne trip?: potential trip to ft wayne, IN the next weekend to see jon&kate+8 and ria's grandmother.

*hofbrauhaus trip?: potential trip to newport for februaryoktoberfest the next weekend.
yes, that's right...i'm travelling for the next four weekends. thank goodness for my parents who are taking care of lilah during my jetsetting.

catch you all mid-week next week.

jingle bell rock

i had the most exquisite time last night. the gang went to chipotle for dinner and merriment ensued.

we went to the xroads xmas party and it was a DE-LIGHT. not only were (nearly) all of my favorite people there...there was hot chocolate, singing, and even the rice parents showed up.
after attending a holiday party, the most logical thing to do would (of course) go to target.

it's been well documented that the 4th of july is my favorite holiday, but second place is beginning to look a lot like christmas.

girls nights out

last night, ria, jen, and i went out for an impromptu movie night at carmike. i adore carmike because it's only $1.50. we saw the nanny diaries, which i was dying to see because it is one of my favorite books. i must say, i enjoyed the movie far more than i had anticipated, but several abhorrations threw me off:
  • Mr. X -- he should've been tall, dark, and handsome
  • Mrs. X -- should've been brunette
  • Grayer -- should've been younger
  • Nanny's mom -- this entire piece of the plot was not true to the book and was not needed in the movie. they should've kept her out of it and put the bohemian grandmother in instead.
  • i did like the different ending.

i thoroughly enjoyed DROOLING over a new specimen...although i will take JT Dinero anyday.
